Personal Current Projects...
Creating this Website
I wanted to be able to express myself in a more interactive, non-linear fashion. Although I am very creative, I am not a graphical designer. I purchased the template for this website and then customized it using "Namo WebEditor 2006."
Writing Children's Book to Raise Money for New Church
I am writing a children's book called "Yia-yia Tales: The Watchman." All proceeds will be used to help build a new Greek Orthodox church in New Bedford where I was raised. The story is about a security guard who teaches four abandoned baby seagulls how to fly. I have reserved the domain name www.yiayiatales.com for this project. The first pass of the story is complete and is now ready to be illustrated.
In the evenings, my wife and I are creating an ecommerce website that will allow consumers to purchase entertainment packages for their childrens' birthday parties. (This site will be written in PHP since I am interested in learning this technology.) I am currently writing the specifications for the project starting with the use cases.
Growing a Redwood Tree in New England
By now you shouldn't be surprised that I would attempt such a thing. While on a trip to California, I bought a 2 inch Redwood Tree from a souvenir shop in February 2005 as a conversation piece. I did not expect the tree to grow. By the fall, the tree was close to 3 feet tall! I called up the tree company and the vendor told me to try to keep the root ball from freezing. I built a chicken wire-mulch shelter for the tree and pampered it through the single digit winter months. Although it is currently not doing so
well, I will
continue to pamper it this year in hopes that in 1000 years, the Discovery Channel will do a special on the 500 foot Redwood tree growing in Massachusetts.
Building a 20' x 12' x 11' High Deck
I do enjoy carpentry, so this should be a challenging project. Yes, I could hire a contractor, but that would be one less accomplishment I could add to the list!
